LMFT-Associate Supervision

with kim fry, ms, lmft-s

You’ve made many courageous steps toward continuing your education, clinical practice, and overall professional development. Supervision is a big one, so give yourself a substantial pat on the back!

I enjoy working with LMFT-Associates in increasing their awareness for working with complex and relational trauma, attachment trauma, eating disorders, body image issues, and compulsive exercise.

We can only do as much work with clients as we ourselves have done, and that’s a great deal of what supervision is for. Let me support your growth as both a person and professional as you develop your own presence, brand, and voice within this dynamic field.

Who is individual supervision for?

Whether you’re making your way through your graduate internship, you’ve recently graduated and are looking for a first-time supervisor (congratulations, by the way!), or you’re in the process of transitioning to a new supervisor: Welcome, I’m so grateful you’ve landed on the Autonomy Therapy page and made it here! If you’re in the market for an individual LMFT supervisor, you’re in the right place.

My Experience

I began my clinical practice with individuals, couples, and families while working toward my Master’s degree at The Family Institute at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Once I graduated, I quickly ditched the snow boots for the sunglasses and moved to Austin, TX (Oh, and picked up many self-care cats along the way).

I gained my own LMFT-Associate hours and received supervision while working as a therapist at Austin Family Institute. I was also trained in the inpatient and outpatient units, as well as the admissions department, at Austin Oaks Hospital, and I received the bulk of my own eating disorder education while working as a Behavioral Health Counselor at Eating Recovery Center. When I completed my associate hours and became fully-licensed, I transitioned to private practice with Calm Counseling ATX. There, I was able to seek consultation from other eating disorder specialists, and I consistently pursued further eating disorder education by way of active membership with Central Texas Eating Disorder Specialists.

I’m passionate about the overlap between physical, mental, and emotional health, particularly how we use movement to connect and/or disconnect from ourselves. I trained as a barre instructor in 2017, received my NASM Certified Personal Trainer accreditation in 2018, became EMDR-trained in 2018, and opened Autonomy Therapy as a group therapy practice in fall 2019.

I became a NARM-Informed Professional in 2024 after completing NARM Level-1 training, and connect with my love of movement by teaching weekly Mat classes at Grit ATX in Austin, TX. I’m currently in Level 2 training to become a NARM Therapist, with plans to become Masters-Level trained in 2027.

I know from both personal and professional experience how valuable an informed, compassionate, and encouraging supervisory experience is, and look forward to connecting, sharing education with, and providing supervision for both new and seasoned therapists looking to be guided with a holistic and collaborative approach.

Supervisee Testimonials

“Having Kim as my supervisor was a GAME CHANGER for me as a clinician. She made me feel capable as a therapist in training, as well as always gave me a perspective on how to see my cases in a deeper way. Every single supervision group I had made me feel more confident, more connected, and more aligned as a therapist! You will feel so covered as an associate if you work with Kim!”

Joy D., LMFT

“Working with Kim was one of the most formative parts of my growth as a therapist.

I sought associate supervision with Kim because of her highly relational approach, skillful guidance, expertise with family systems, clinical knowledge with complex cases, and an abundance of recommendations and resources to support just about any challenge a client or therapist encounters.

She had a way of asking thoughtful questions, offering new perspectives and mic-drop insights, and conceptualizing client cases while encouraging me to think critically and consider, first and foremost, how I wanted to practice.

From the outset of our work together, I quickly learned that I could trust and lean on her clinical skillset. I knew early on that her clinical voice was the one I wanted to internalize as I started my therapy career.

She helped me learn to trust my own instincts, pay attention to my internal experience in the therapy and supervision rooms, and consider how my self-of-therapist information could be used to inform my clinical judgment.

Kim is organized, intentional, and best of all, human. She develops a genuine relationship with her supervisees, and just like in the therapy room, I believe my relationship with her was the container in which I was able to develop more confidence in my work with clients.

The greatest gift of our time together was that the clinical voice I admired in her and wanted to absorb gradually became my own. I learned to notice when my perspective differed from hers and, with her support, sort through and land on decisions that felt authentic to me.

I'd highly recommend her to any LMFT Associate looking for supervision that will provide steadiness in difficult times, offer attunement and modeling of therapeutic presence, challenge them and compassionately reflect growth edges, deepen their clinical thinking, and help them find their own voice as a therapist.”

Jennifer Pollack, LMFT

"I had the pleasure of receiving supervision from Kim during my practicum and internship as a therapist-in-training. I owe much of my confidence as a clinician, and my comfort in my skillset, to her comprehensive and heartfelt supervision sessions. Kim goes above and beyond to ensure you're equipped with any resource or support you need, while still honoring your agency as an individual. She masterfully balances sharing her clinical wisdom with encouraging supervisees to develop their own unique style of practice. Anyone who works with her walks away feeling heard, seen, and supported. I would wholeheartedly recommend Kim as a supervisor for anyone looking to grow in their capacity as a practitioner and deepen their clinical acumen."
