Hi, I’m Kim Fry
A little about me and my Clinical experience
I earned my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University, and over the years, I've had the privilege of supporting clients across a variety of clinical settings. Each experience has deepened my understanding of the resilience, complexity, and capacity for growth within each person I work with, shaping the therapist I am today.
I began my career at Austin Oaks Hospital, where I worked with individuals navigating acute mental health challenges in an inpatient setting. I later joined a nonprofit family counseling center, providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families before finding my passion in the treatment of eating disorders. From there, I worked at both an eating disorder-focused group therapy practice and Eating Recovery Center, providing care at the Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) levels.
In 2019, I founded Autonomy Therapy as a group practice with the vision of creating a warm, inclusive, and trauma-informed space where people could feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported. Over the next seven years, I had the honor of growing the practice, mentoring and supervising fellow therapists, and walking alongside hundreds of clients as they navigated healing, growth, and meaningful change.
Today, I’ve intentionally returned to solo practice so I can devote my full attention to the work I love most: creating meaningful therapeutic relationships and supporting adults as they untangle the patterns that no longer serve them, strengthen their connection with themselves, and move toward a life that feels more intentional and fulfilling.
My Clinical Approach
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that our patterns, coping strategies, and ways of relating to ourselves and others developed as ways to originally protect ourselves and our earliest relationships. Rather than viewing these parts of ourselves as something to fix or overcome, I believe healing begins with curiosity, compassion, and a deeper understanding of and attunement to the experiences that shaped us.
My work is informed by relational and trauma-focused approaches, with advanced training in NARM® (NeuroAffective Relational Model) and EMDR. I also integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Attachment-Focused Therapy, and person-centered therapy to create an approach that is individualized, collaborative, and responsive to each client’s unique experiences and goals.
I am especially passionate about working with adults (18+) who have spent years trying to understand themselves, improve themselves, or make sense of their experiences, but still feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Together, we explore the deeper roots of these patterns, strengthen connection with yourself and others, and create more space for self-trust, authenticity, and meaningful change.
